JuJu
presents wicked global music nights, mainly live and always upbeat
and uplifting.
Our main venue in Sheffield is the Boardwalk on Snig
Hill.
The venue's great, loads of wood everywhere which gives it a warm
and friendly feel. There's a big stage and a great dressing room
for the musicians to chill in and chat, and excellent PA and sound
engineering.
JuJu gigs are usually on Saturday nights and go on till midnight or 1:00am
if we can get an extension. The Boardwalk is hoping to get a later
license really soon, but if you've still got the energy and the
dosh you can always go on to another club. Go to our Gig
Dates section, to see what's coming up, and have a listen to
some of the bands to get a taste!
There's
a wide range of live music, mixing roots bands from Africa, Latin
America, Asia and other global points with African drummers and
UK based musicians playing dub, techno and other dance flavours.
We've got a good outdoor festival feel, yet we're indoors, with
the range of sounds you'd expect to hear as you moved between the
world music tent and the dance tent at Glastonbury.
The
JuJu resident house DJ is Papa Al, long in the tooth, but devilish
in the tune. His music is global fusion, which crosses between pure
global beats from world music scene with dub, drum and base and
techno trance fuelled tracks. Papa Al shares the decks with a range
of guest DJ's recent partners have been Earth Doctor (free parties
in Wales); the Rootsman (mighty music-maker from Bradford) and Ann
D - Sheffield's turntable diva, sought throughout the land for
her brilliant eclectic performances.
The
festival feel is carried through with the décor. Decoye team,
who décor the JuJu and Headcharge
have created their own fusion of tribal, ancestral and eccentric
backdrops and props animated by UV lights and solar projections,
its different every time!
You'll
find yourself dancing and having a great time!
